Two surprise teams sit atop the top three spots in the Metropolitan Division, the New York Islanders and the Carolina Hurricanes with the Washington Capitals right there at the top with them. The Pittsburgh Penguins are just a single point away from third and the Columbus Blue Jackets are three points away with a game in hand on each of them. The Philadelphia Flyers are now slipping away, they are seven points back from playoff contention. The New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils round out the division and have been out of the playoff picture for a good portion of the season. I always find small slates like Friday’s (three-game) much tougher than big slates because there is less room for error and if you don’t hit the nail on the head and other people do, you might lose everything.
We all saw the celebration of Alex Ovechkin after winning his holy grail, the Stanley Cup. It can probably be safely said, that it never left his side unless it was in the hands of a teammate. Also having another huge first in his life, this time becoming a father, Ovechkin has had an incredible 2018.
In my opinion, the Eastern Conference is the more exciting conference of the two in the National Hockey League. I am going to be highlighting a player or an exciting line from each team to watch out for as you get your fill of hockey this year.
