The golfing career of Tiger Woods pretty much defines the word ‘rollercoaster’. After he burst onto the scene by becoming the youngest ever Masters winner in 1997 he was unstoppable for a decade until injury and personal problems saw his form dip dramatically. He has endured a long spell in the doldrums and been written off by many in the game, but 2019 proved to be the year Tiger staged one of sport’s most spectacular career comebacks.
The Pittsburgh Steelers went into the 2019 NFL Draft with many needs. Their biggest need was Inside Linebacker, a need created from the injury to Ryan Shazier in 2017. The question was – would they address that need in the draft, and when?
Not too long ago Dominic Smith was a first-round draft pick by the New York Mets. In 2013 the Mets selected him 11th overall. In six seasons in the minors, Dom slashed .296/.361/.426. He and the Mets both expected him to take over the first base job for the Mets on a daily basis. Then reality hit, Dom struggled, and the Mets were again left with a question mark for an everyday productive first baseman.
The Pittsburgh Steelers came into the 2018 season with high expectations. They were coming off a 13-3 record, earned the #2 seed in the AFC, and were coming back with almost the same team. Those expectations never became reality however; they lost Le’Veon Bell to a holdout and they missed the playoffs with a 9-6-1 record. Then they had a disastrous offseason as they lost Antonio Brown, Le’Veon Bell, Jesse James, and Morgan Burnett.
For Mets fans, last year was not only dreadful but confusing at the same time. The team started out torrid, going 11-1 and then proceeded to have a dreadful stretch where the season was essentially over. Without any pressure on the team, the team finished the season 44-37 in their last 81 to bring them to 77-85 for the season. Even though the last 81 games were meaningless to the team, this stretch is somewhat an indication of the growth occurring in the organization.
