Three Role Players Stepping up in the Bubble

With the NBA’s return, the intensity has risen as certain teams want to be in a comfortable position before the playoffs begin soon. Even though we know what the superstars will bring to the table, there have been several role players who have stepped up big and provided a spark for their respective clubs. Let’s take a look at some top notch performers who have played well in the bubble.

Gary Trent Jr.: With the loss of Trevor Ariza opting out, many were wondering who would be the next man up for Portland as far as perimeter defense. But as the Blazers season restarted, Trent Jr has been that guy to step up on both ends for the Blazers. Portland is in a desperate fight for the 8 seed and is in dire need of everyone’s contributions to make that happen. Trent Jr has been a key component to the teams success by knocking down perimeter shots and also making hustle plays on defense. As the season progresses on, Trent’s presence will be needed more than ever. As long as he can continue to bring a spark to the team, Portland may just crawl into the playoffs.

Michael Porter Jr.: We all know of the obstacles that this kid has faced before playing in the NBA. It is great to watch Michael Porter Jr. finally flourishing with this Denver team and catching a rhythm offensively. Porter Jr has stepped up in the past few games by knocking down shots and being a playmaker on the offensive end. His play has helped guys like Nikola Jokic and others play the game at a higher level and make the game easier. Once Denver gets everyone healthy soon, they will be a force to be reckoned with out in the Western Conference. Hopefully, Michael Porter Jr can continue to keep momentum going in the bubble.

T.J. Warren: No one expected this! Although TJ Warren has emerged as a solid scorer in the NBA, his hot streak has seemed to have shocked the entire world. It seems as if extra time in the gym is paying off for Warren. Over his first three games in the bubble, Warren has shot 65% from the field along with 60% from three point land. The defense has had no answers for the guy and he just continues to catch fire the more he touches the ball. Victor Oladipo is still finding his way back from his gruesome injury, while Domantas Sabonis has suffered a foot injury as well. With Indiana’s two stars not able to provide the spark, the team has looked to Warren to keep things going.

It’s great to watch role players flourish with their team in the bubble. The ones who understand when to step up are the ones who are going to help their team push forward in the playoffs. Can these guys keep things going? We must see as basketball continues on in the bubble.
