MLB DFS August 2: Value Plays and Stacks

MLB DFS August 2: Jon Lester

Sunday is a day for relaxation, house chores, quality family time, you name it. It’s a perfect day to set some lineups and have something to track throughout. With a lot of less than ideal names slated to pitch today, let’s take a look at how we can attack.

Pitcher

Jon Lester ($9,000 DK, $8,900 FD)

Lester exited his first start of the season after not allowing a hit through five innings of work. He doesn’t have a whole lot of strikeout upside, which usually makes him a less than stellar fantasy option. However, as aforementioned, this slate is ugly from a pitching side of things. Give me the veteran with the wind blowing slightly in at Wrigley Field. I think he has a good shot to neutralize some damage and pick up a victory today.

Value Plays

Mike Zunino ($3,600 DK, $2,300 FD)

Zunino only has two hits on the young season, but one of those was a home run. This isn’t exactly the cheapest price to pay for a catcher, but it gets pretty nasty at the bottom of the barrel and Zunino has a good track record against Tommy Milone. In 14 PAs, he’s 6-for-13 with three bombs.

Luis Robert ($3,600 DK, $2,800 FD)

Robert just hit his second homer of the season last night, going 4-for-6 with two doubles, a homer, and three RBI. The kid will be hitting leadoff again today versus Jakob Junis and I think the price is just too cheap for him, given his home run and stolen base upside. He’s batting .364 with a 181 OPS+ and I think he’ll improve those numbers here.

Stacks

San Diego Padres @ Colorado Rockies

I like both sides of this game, as is normally the case whenever Coors Field is on the slate. Zach Davies and Antonio Senzatela both had decent enough starts their first time out, but they’ve shown in the past they can give up some runs. Last year, Senzatela finished with a 6.71 ERA and 5.12 xFIP. Davies had a solid 3.55 ERA, but his xFIP was also horrible at 5.20. The bats will be expensive but should be worth it, although ownership might be high.

Tampa Bay Rays

We already mentioned Mike Zunino, but he’s just one of the many that are in play against Tommy Milone. Since 2016, Milone hasn’t finished a year with a HR/9 rate lower than 1.93. Right-handed hitters are a career .278 and .335 wOBA against him. Yandy Diaz, Hunter Renfroe, and Jose Martinez are a few of my favorites.

Please Note: Fanduel pricing has been included but for all intents and purposes, the article was based on DraftKings research. Recheck starting lineups and weather concerns before the games start and make changes accordingly.
