Magic vs HEAT reaction

Jacari McRae | March 5th, 2020

It took a huge night from three-point range for the Miami Heat to beat the Orlando Magic. The Heat hit a franchise-record 22 three-pointers in their 116-113 win over the Magic. Miami’s previous record was 21, which was set back in 2017. With the win, the Heat’s season record is now 40-22, one more than last season’s win total.

Here are my takeaways from the Heat’s win over the Magic.

Duncan’s night

With the Heat’s two all-stars having an off-night offensively, Duncan Robinson took over the scoring load. Robinson was on fire from beyond the arc. He was seven of eight from the three-point range in the first half. With his ninth three-pointer in the fourth quarter, he now three away from breaking Wayne Ellington‘s single-season record of 227.

Duncan finished the night with 27 points shooting nine of 12 from beyond the arc.

Dragic provides scoring lift off the bench

Goran Dragic continued his solid production off the bench. Dragic also played a part in the Heat’s three-point success, shooting 5 of 9 from three-point range. He finished the night with 25 points and also added nine assists. The Heat’s point guard made the right pass and attacked the paint.

It was Dragic’s 12 20th point game of the season. While he’s likely not the favorite for the sixth man award, he’s proven he deserves to be a candidate for the award.

Olynyk continues to play well

Kelly Olynyk has seen his share of critics this season. For most of the season, he’s been in and out of the Heat’s rotation. However, for the past few games, Olynyk has provided solid production off the Heat’s bench. On Wednesday, he went five of five from the field, including three conversions from beyond the arc.

The Heat big man played so well in the fourth period that Coach Erik Spoelstra kept Bam Adebayo on the bench longer than usual.

Next up: New Orleans Pelicans. Game tips off at 8pm eastern.
