HEAT vs Jazz Reaction

Jacari McRae | February 13th, 2020

After a rough five-game road trip, the Miami Heat are looking forward to the All-Star break. In a battle of teams with identical 35-18 records, the Utah Jazz came out on top. Donovan Mitchell and the Jazz’s killer threes down the stretch were too much to overcome. Miami drops to 35-19 and is now 2.5 games behind the Boston Celtics for the third seed.

Here are my takeaways from Wednesday’s loss to the Jazz.

Bam struggles against Gobert

For the second time this season, Bam Adebayo started off slow against Rudy Gobert. Just like his last game against the Jazz, but he came around in the second half. After going 0 for 2, Adebayo scored on a hook shot and then dunked on Gobert early in the third period. And when Gobert gave him space, Adebayo nailed a jumper over him. However, those were the only three field goals Adebayo made.

Adebayo closed the night with nine points and 11 rebounds.

Crowder continues his hot three-point shooting

Since being traded to the Heat, Jae Crowder has been very impressive. Entering Wednesday’s contest against the Jazz, Crowder was averaging 19.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, while shooting 77 percent from three. He was just as effective in his third game, shooting 3 of 4 on threes. Crowder is now shooting 13 of 17 from beyond the arc.

Crowder finished with 15 points, three rebounds, and a steal.

Jazz took advantage of Heat’s undersized lineup

For the second consecutive game, the Heat went with an undersized lineup. The Heat started a frontline of players shorter than 6’10. The Utah Jazz’s frontline, headlined by 7-footer Rudy Gobert, was much taller. And to no one’s surprise, the Jazz’s starting frontline outrebounded the Heat’s 32-21. Gobert had 20 rebounds by himself.

As a team, the Jazz outrebounded the Heat 53-37.

Next up: The Atlanta Hawks on February 20. Game tips off at 7:30PM ET
