HEAT vs Clippers reaction

Jacari McRae | February 6th, 2020

With so many moving parts ahead of the trade deadline, the Miami Heat entered Wednesday’s game against the Los Angeles Clippers shorthanded. Only eight Heat players were dressed. Miami pushed to an early 12-point lead against the Clippers but eventually ran out of steam. The Heat would go on to lose the game 128-111. Miami’s record is now 34-16 for the season.

With that said, here are my takeaways from Wednesday’s game.

Jimmy Down

After being in attack mode the past few games, Jimmy Butler was back in his facilitator role. After recording just two assists on Monday, the Heat All-star finished with seven assists on Wednesday. His night ended in the third period once he exited the game with a strained right shoulder. He never returned.

Butler ended the night with 11 points, five rebounds, and seven assists.

Iggy on the Way

Prior to Wednesday’s game, ESPN reported that Andre Iguodala will be headed to Miami. As of early Thursday morning, the full details of the trade haven’t been leaked yet. So far, we know Justise Winslow, Dion Waiters, and James Johnson are involved. Winslow is headed to the Memphis Grizzlies.

The reason why the full details haven’t been leaked is that both teams are trying to add Oklahoma City to the deal. Miami is reportedly trying to land Danilo Gallinari.

Opportunity

With Johnson and Waiters held out, Tyler Herro nursing a foot injury, and Meyers Leonard back in Miami, it opened up minutes for Gabe Vincent. Vincent, who’s under a two-way contract, showed off his shooting ability in his first meaningful minutes. The rookie guard finished the game with nine points on 3-of-9 shooting from the field.

Vincent had played just one minute entering Wednesday. He played in the final minute of the Heat’s blowout win over the Orlando Magic on January 27th.

Next up: The Sacramento Kings on Friday. Game tips off at 10pm ET.
