Bulls vs Heat reaction

Jacari McRae | December 9th, 2019

For the first time this season, at home, the Miami Heat had to break a sweat to come out victorious. Despite their record, the Chicago Bulls threw the first punch and lead the Heat by nine after the first period. Even though the Heat won the next two quarters, the game was still in doubt. But in the end, the Heat prevailed. Miami moves to 17-6 for the season.

Here are my takeaways from the team’s 110-105 victory over the Bulls.

Herro Ball

When the Heat needed him, Tyler Herro came through for them. The rookie guard hit big shot after big shot, scoring 16 of the Heat’s final 18 points of the game from late in the fourth quarter into overtime. Herro finished the game with 27 points on 10-of-22 shooting from the field, 5-of-11 from three, and six rebounds.

Since being drafted out of Kentucky, Herro has proven there’s more to his game than shooting. With Justise Winslow and Goran Dragic sidelined, Herro has been used more on the ball more. He’s made some good reads off the pick and roll.

Jimmy Drawing Fouls

This wasn’t an efficient night for Jimmy Butler, who shot 3 of 14 from the field. However, Butler was still able to score 23 points because he was 17 of 21 from the free-throw line. His ability to draw fouls was vital to the Heat’s win on Sunday.

Of course, drawing fouls is nothing new for Butler. He currently ranks fourth in the NBA in foul attempts, averaging 8.7 attempts per game. Butler trails Houston’s James Harden (14.6), Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo (10.8) and Dallas’ Luka Doncic (9.5) in free throw attempts per game.

Bam Does it All

Despite playing through his groin injury, Bam Adebayo continued to do it all for the Heat. In additional to his great defense, Bam also set great screens to free up teammates and finished plays inside. His bucket late in the fourth quarter was huge.

Adebayo closed the game with 21 points on 7-of-9 shooting, recorded a game-high 13 rebounds, and dished out six assists.

Next up: The Atlanta Hawks. Game tips off at 8pm ET.
