Week nine is on the horizon and that’s the halfway point of the NFL season. I hope your IDP leagues are treating you well and the defensive side of the ball has been kind to you and your team. If they are carrying you to a playoff berth then keep up the work, if you’re struggling then it’s time to get on the ball and turn things around! Remember to always reach out with any questions at any time. Let’s get into our recap from last week.
Yannick Ngakoue had a nice game on the defensive line against the New York Jets with two tackles (both being solo and for loss) and two big-time sacks. Terrell Edmunds had a quiet night Monday night surprisingly against Miami with four total tackles and three of them were solo. Zach Cunningham came up big facing Oakland with eight total tackles (five solo and one tackle for loss) and a pass defended. Then my sleeper, Marquise Blair showed out big time Sunday with his matchup with the Falcons with 11 total tackles and one forced fumble. Good weekend overall, but just getting started so let’s dive into week nine shall we.
Olivier Vernon, Cleveland Browns
There must be some light to shine on such a disappointing Browns team right now and it’s looking like the defense can do it. Vernon got to play 100% of the snaps last week and he showed up in a big way with a season-high six tackles and a sack to add on. His second sack at the midway of the season. I expect good results with facing Denver with backup quarterback Brandon Allen at the helm and suspect offensive line.
Jonathan Bostic, Washington Redskins
With Reuben Foster out for the season, the Redskins had to turn to the veteran Bostic to man the linebacking corp. He’s done a great job so far racking up the second-most tackles on the team and posting top-20 linebacker numbers the past four out of five games he’s played. Now he gets a favorable matchup with the Bills who are giving up top ten production against opposing linebackers.
Roderic Teamer, Los Angeles Chargers
With injuries hurting the Chargers most of the season, Teamer was brought in as an undrafted rookie with big shoes to fill. He’s played 100% of the snaps since taking over and the volume has shown. Since taking over week three, he’s compiled 39 tackles, a sack, an interception, and two passes defended. Last week he a nice line of eight tackles, a sack, and a pass defended, he looks to continue the momentum against Green Bay.
Matthew Ioannidis, DL, Washington Redskins
With an intriguing matchup with the Buffalo Bills, who have given up 10.5 sacks to opposing defensive linemen. Ioannidis comes goes into Sunday with momentum from his last three games putting up nice numbers including 16 total tackles, three tackles for loss, and two sacks. Though for the season he has a career-high 40 tackles and 3.5 sacks. His snaps average consistently stays at 75% gameplay and with that volume should continue to see production. He’s my sleeper play for the weekend.
