Locks, Stacks, and Barrels: MLB DFS for September 12th, 2019

John Lepore | September 12th, 2019

With a light seven-game slate tonight, there aren’t too many plays that jump out. Here are a few values with nice price tags and an absolute must-play for cash games. Let’s take a look at what we have for this evening.

Locks

Patrick Corbin – The Washington Nationals lefty gets to go to Target Field and face the Minnesota Twins. Not an enviable task…but…Corbin has been stellar for the past three months. On June 11th he had a 4.11 ERA, it now stands at 3.16. In the 15 starts over that span, Corbin has allowed more than three runs only once. He’s had seven or more strikeouts 12 times, and, the most important stat, he’s scored over 20 DK points in 13 of those starts. The Twins offense is likely without Kepler and Sano tonight so the “Bomba Squad” takes a little hit. Also, the Twins have scored a total of only 20 runs over their last seven games, and in five of those, they’ve scored exactly two.

Clay Buchholz – After being drafted in the first round in 2005 and spending 10 years with the Boston Red Sox, Buchholz will finally face his old squad. While Buchholz isn’t a strikeout machine by any stretch, he has been solid since returning on August 25th. In those three starts, he’s thrown 17.2 innings and given up seven runs (3.57 ERA). The Red Sox on the other side have struggled at the plate. They’ve been shutout two of their last three and have lost five in a row. We aren’t looking for a no-hitter from Buchholz but at $5,800 on DraftKings, he could return very good value and allow you some nice bats.

Stacks

Houston Astros vs Homer Bailey – The last time Homer Bailey faced the Astros they torched him for nine runs and Bailey couldn’t get out of the third inning. He gave up three home runs that game (Yordan Alvarez, Yuli Gurriel, Aledmys Diaz). The Astros are slashing an insane .277/.353/.495 this season and have been on base over 2,000 times. Even without Carlos Correa and possibly Gurriel, the Astros just rake so you can mix and match basically anyone in this lineup tonight especially against a subpar pitcher like Bailey.

Barrels

Bryce Harper – This play is as close to a lock as you will see in DFS. Harper is at home where he has a .949 OPS vs a .790 on the road and 19 of his 31 HRs have come at Citizens Bank Ballpark. He has hit nine HRs in his last 22 games. Oh, and did I mention he absolutely OWNS Julio Teheran! Harper is 18-43 with 8 HRs and an 11/7 BB/K rate against the Braves righty. $4,600 on DraftKings is a steal. Lock Harper in all your cash games.

Yan Gomes – A nice cheap option at $3,100 on DraftKings, Gomes faces a familiar foe in Kyle Gibson and the Twins. Gomes has found a little bit of a power stroke hitting two bombs the other night in Atlanta. He has four doubles and three HRs in his last 52 PAs while sporting an .890 OPS. The Nats catcher has faced Gibson multiple times going back to his days back in Cleveland. Gibson is making his first start off the IL tonight. Gomes is 13-30 with two blasts off the Twins righty.

Others to Consider:

Khris Davis ($3,100 DK) – 6-19 with 4 HRs vs Justin Verlander

Josh Donaldson ($5,200 DK) – 9-19 with 3 HRs vs Drew Smyly
