Many people expect the Jets to start turning things around in 2019, and some even expect them to play meaningful games in December. In order to do that they will need players to step up.
The obvious player is, of course, Sam Darnold. For the Jets to be successful, not just in 2019, but in the long-run, they need Darnold to be at the top of his game. However, we’re going to take a look at the players other than him that are key for the Jets success this season.Embed from Getty Images
5. TE, Trevon Wesco
I know he’s a rookie — and he’s not going to be the only rookie on this list — but that doesn’t mean he can’t step up and help and be a big contributor. For Wesco, though, it won’t be visible on the stat sheet.
Notably, the Jets are weak on the offensive line, and that is where Wesco can step up. He wasn’t just a good run blocking option at West Virginia, but a good pass blocking option as well. So, he can be more an old-school tight end merely used as a blocking option and occasionally going out on routes.
