DraftKings Around the Horn July 19th, 2019

Joel Dorcas |July 19th, 2019

Yesterday was a bit rocky if you tailed me with Charlie Morton as SP1 as he was nowhere near what we wanted for a good return. The Yankees are as close to matchup-proof as they come as they got to Morton in a 5-1 victory. Tonight we will look to some of those bats in a tasty matchup at home to the Rockies and left-handed starter Kyle Freeland. More on that later, let’s get into this mega 14 gamer, let’s go Around the Horn!

PITCHER

Brendan McKay   Tampa Bay Rays   $8,700

This has the makings of a really nice return. The former number four overall prospect draws a depleted and uninspiring Chicago White Sox lineup. The Sox are without one of there best bats in Eloy Jimenez and the rest of the lineup other than Yoan Moncada isn’t very scary. A 28.7 hard-hit percentage versus left-handed pitching ranks them dead last in the league. Mckay’s 22.4 K % is likely to take a nice uptick after this one. In three starts this season Mckay has shown plenty of promise, 16 innings pitched, 13 K, 0.69 WHIP, and a 1.69 ERA.

INFIELD

Joey Votto    Cincinnati Reds   1B   $3,400

Sats and research aren’t going to find anything that should suggest we should feel confident backing Votto. For this season anyway. As for the career head to head matchup against fellow veteran Adam Wainright, there is a reason for optimism; 15-for-49, 3 HR, .306/.404/.592. More than anything, plugging Votto in at first is based on the low salary.

DJ LeMahieu   New York Yankees  2B/3B  $4,700

The Red Sox and the Yankees are in prime spots to smash tonight. I know, big surprise right. The Yankees are at home and will draw a struggling left-handed pitcher in Kyle Freeland. Freeland just returned to the rotation this past Saturday and got shelled versus the Reds at Coors Field. Four innings, five runs, nine hits. His last three starts have been pretty awful as he has failed to get past the fourth inning surrendering 17 runs. As for LeMahieu, he will look to continue his outstanding season against his former Rocky teammates. Up against left-handed pitching LeMahieu is hitting .329 with a .518 slug and a .385 wOBA in 94 plate appearances this season.

OUTFIELD

Aaron Judge   New York Yankees   $5,300

All rise, Judge is certainly bringing lots of offense to this loaded lineup of late, and like many Yankees are projected to tag Freeland at home. Versus left-handed pitching, this season Judge is raking, .371, .657 slug, .469 wOBA. In his last ten games, Judge has been right on schedule, .324/.432/.568.

George Springer    Houston Astros   $5,100

Here we have another nice right-handed bat opposing a left-handed starter. Mike Minor will be sent to the mound to face the star-studded Astros lineup Friday. Springer has amassed 22 at-bats versus Minor and has fared very well slashing .409/.517/.636. Recently, on the whole, Springer is continuing his outstanding season cranking four homers and driving in nine runs in his last 10 games.
